I don’t think we’ll ever truly get VT’s side of the story.

My limited understanding from the VT perspective has been Brands knew via Gable that Zalesky was going to get the boot and he and his staff started recruiting for Iowa while employed at VT whether that included Brent and the others I don’t know. Now all of this could be BS and VT just had an axe to grind against Brands because his leaving gutted the program, but I’d be willing to bet that Dresser knows more than he’s putting out there. On the other hand I wouldn’t in the least bit be surprised if he had no say in the matter because IIRC Dresser helped with consulting in the initial VT-Brands connection. I’ll say I believe Metcalf that Brands didn’t come to him if it were me I would’ve probably followed him as well. I feel like wrestling is one of those very few sports where you commit to the coach and not the school due to the longer than average leash a coach is given regarding results.
